Weekending

A nice long weekend spent doing a little bit of exploring in some beautiful, sunny spring weather.
We headed over to Trier to check out the roman ruins as well as the oldest church in Germany (started in around 300 and finished around 1200).
It was incredible to be standing inside the Roman Amphitheater imagining it full of thousands of people and wondering about all that had gone on there.

The kids especially enjoyed playing on the steep hillsides (once stadium seating) and I'm surprised we didn't have any big tumbles.... it was incredibly steep.

On our way out of town we zipped over to Luxembourg to visit the American Military Cemetary where 5,000 men (and few women) were buried after WWII. It was humbling to walk among so many (mostly young) people who died fighting in a foreign country. Such a different experience of Europe then we've had.  It's hard to imagine this place as such a disaster.

Of course no worthwhile weekend (in the eyes of my children) is complete without a fire and marshmallows.
So   so   so many marshmallows. Paul woke up the next morning asking angrily for "memos!"

I finally washed up the last of the smokey clothes/ blankets and we're back to the regular of rhythm of the week and thankful for our little weekend adventure.
